Adaptive Instrumentation in Treatment and Retreatment

Prof. Hani F. Ounsi, DDS, DESE, MSc, PhD, FICD  – Lebanon

Abstract: Knowing how to deal with iatrogenic events is important in endodontics. Such events generally occur when the practitioner uses sequences as suggested by the manufacturer without the specific modifications required by root canal anatomy or  physiopathological changes to which the canal space is subjected. It is only by taking into account in these confounding factors that we will be able to optimize our workflow and improve our performance. Efficient instrumentation used wisely is the key to working predictably with minimal stress, while ensuring an optimal success rate.

Learning Objectives:
  1.  The participants will focus on the specificity of root canal anatomy
  2. The participants will be introduced to the adaptive technology features
  3. The participants will recognize critical differences between treatment and retreatment procedures
  4. The participants will be trained on adaptive instruments for treatment
  5. The participants will be trained on adaptive instruments for retreatment

Who should attend?

  • General Practitioners
  • Specialists
  •  Dental Students

Workshop Procedure and provided materials:

A: Provided materials and equipment (for each participant):

  1.  Molar replica with complex anatomy
  2.  Plastic blocks
  3.  Adaptive instruments
  4.  Rotary instruments

B: Procedure and demonstration steps:

  1.  Clinically – oriented instrumentation sequence. The original sequence will be presented as well as modifications based on the possible anatomies encountered.
  2.  The improved cleaning ability of adaptive vs. conventional instruments will be demonstrated
  3.  The potential for adaptive instruments in retreatments procedure will be demonstrated.
  4.  The participants will be train on adaptive instrumentation in treatment and retreatment conditions.
Course Outline:

09:00 – 10:30 | Specificity of root canal anatomy
Coffee break

11:00 – 13:00 | Critical limitations of current mainstream rotary and reciprocating shaping instruments
Lunch

14:00 – 15:30 | Impact of Adaptive instrumentation on cleaning procedures
Coffee Break

16:00 – 17:00 | Possibilities and limitations of adaptive instrumentation in treatment and retreatment procedure

17:00 – 18:00 | Clinical tips for optimal use of adaptive instrumentation in treatment and retreatment procedures.
