AEEDC Student Competition provides a unique opportunity to all dental students. Students in their last academic years can actively interact with their counterparts from different dental colleges and universities through a face-to-face competition, with a vision of exchanging information, knowledge and expanding the sudents’ horizons on various fields of dentistry. Competing students will be challenged to engage with questions in various subjects ranging from Infection Control and Four Handed Dentistry to Implantology and Oral Surgery.

AEEDC Student Competition – Conference Hall D

AEEDC Student Competition provides a unique opportunity to all dental & oral medicine students. This year, the 11th edition of the AEEDC Student Competition will be hosting 24 universities from MENASA region and Europe. Each university is participating with a team of 5 students in their 4th & 5th academic years, who will actively interact with their counterparts from different dental colleges and universities through a face-to-face competition. A vision of exchanging information, knowledge and expanding the students’ horizons on various fields of dentistry. Competing students will be challenged to engage with questions in various subjects ranging from Infection Control and Four Handed Dentistry to Implantology and Oral Surgery.

- To involve dental students in AEEDC Dubai programs.
- To create interaction among dental students of different institutions.
- To expand their knowledge in various issues in dentistry by active participation.
- To support and shape up the knowledge hunting sense of the future dentists.

11th AEEDC Student Competition Guidelines & Regulations
It’s our pleasure to conduct the 11th AEEDC Student Competition during the 24th UAE International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition – AEEDC Dubai, which is scheduled to be held from 4 – 6 February 2020, at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
AEEDC Student Competition provides opportunities to all dental & oral medicine students in their clinical practice stage. A unique opportunity to interact with their peers, share experiences and get exposed to work in collaboration with other students and under the supervision of faculty members.
Generally, the students are challenged to engage with questions divided into two groups:
Group one will be correlated to AEEDC Conference Lectures.
Group two will be correlated to Clinical Dentistry submitted by each participating university. As a team, the students of each university will work to answer these questions.
Your University is welcome to participate with us through nominating 5 students to be part of the competition. In this respect the university name will be part of all the promotional campaign related to the competition. Its name will be carried in all our e-flyers, newsletters and other advertising materials and campaigns. The university logo will be also placed on AEEDC website with a hyperlink to the university website.
I] General Guidelines and Regulations:
- No participation forms will be considered after 20th November 2019.
- Submission of the participation form does not automatically entitle the applicant to participate in AEEDC Students Competition 2020.
- Incomplete participation form will not be accepted as all required information should be received before the submission deadline.
- For any withdrawals, the participants should notify the organiser in writing as soon as possible or minimum of (2) months prior to the event.
- AEEDC Student Competition is open to all public and private dental universities/colleges.
- Academic team is made up of (5) students which will be nominated from each university to be part of the competition.
- Participants must be bon afide students from the representing dental university.
- Participants must be in clinical practice stage (4th or 5th academic year)
- Each team is supervised by one faculty member from the same university.
- The faculty member supervisor will nominate one team leader (captain) from the five students to be the representative of the team while answering the questions.
- All the team members and their supervisors must be registered in the conference.
- A draw process will be done to select the competing teams in the preliminary round and will be announced to the participants of the competition.;
- The student competition teams with the higher scoring points in the elimination round(s) will be qualified for the final round.
- Participating teams’ members are expected to represent their University in a professional manner, any socially unacceptable behavior will result in automatic disqualification of their team from the competition.
II] Competition Mechanics:
The competition will be composed of 4 main rounds; Elimination A & B, Semi-Final and Final Rounds:
- Elimination Rounds A:
- This will be conducted on 4th February from 14:00-18:00
- It will consist of 12 rounds (A random draw process had selected the competing teams)

Semi-Final Rounds:
- This will be conducted on the 5th of February from 14:00-18:00.
- It will consist of 3 rounds where the winners of the previous rounds will compete against each other.

Final Round:
- This will be conducted on the 5th of February from 16:00-18:00.
- The 3 winners of the semi-final round will face each other in 1 round. The team with the highest score will be the AEEDC Knowledge Champion 2020 and the team with the lowest score will be the 3rd place winner
III] Competition Policy:
- All (5) representatives of each university will work together to answer the questions as a team including the captain student, who will deliver the answer.
- Questions shall be in multiple choice forms
- Questions divided into two groups:
- Group one will be correlated to AEEDC Conference Lectures submitted by the speakers who are the only reference
- Group two will be correlated to Clinical Dentistry submitted by each participating university and will be cross checked by independent academics
- The conference lectures’ questions will be from the respective session previous to each round, i.e.: The morning session of each day.
- Excluded Conference Halls from the Competition questions is 5th February Conference Hall E (Tentative)
- Each round will be composed of (5) questions randomly chosen from the Conference lectures’ questions & Universities questions and each team will receive the same questions.
- Each question will be equal to (1) point.
- The captain of each team will deliver the answer after 30 seconds.
- In case of a tie, each team will have (1) tie breaker question, if both answered correctly, the process will be repeated until only one team gets the correct answer
- Disqualification in case of receiving external assistance is to the organisers’ discretion.
IV] Awards & Certificates:
- The highest scoring team will be declared as AEEDC KNOWLEDGE CHAMPION 2020
- Each member student of the champion team will receive 2,000 AED
- Each member student of the 2nd place winner will receive 1,000 AED
- Each member student of the 3rd place winner will receive 500 AED
- Free registration for AEEDC Dubai 2021 for each member student of the champion team
- Certificate of participation in the competition will be given to all teams’ members & their supervisors
- Invitation to AEEDC Dubai Night on 5th of February 2020 for all teams’ members & their supervisors.
