According to FDI World Dental Federation, oral diseases affect at least 3.58 billion people worldwide
Dubai – United Arab Emirates, 6 February, 2019: The UAE International Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition – AEEDC Dubai continued on its second day at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center (DICEC), and witnessed the launch of the 16th Global Scientific Dental Alliance Meeting (GSDA), with the participation of 157-member representatives coming from all corners of the globe. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of GSDA and AEEDC Dubai and, Dr. Nasser Al Malik, Chairman, Scientific Committee of AEEDC Dubai, Dr. Mohammad Abedin, Scientific Vice-Chairman of AEEDC Dubai, Eng. Anas Al Madani, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of INDEX Holding, and a number of leading dignitaries, heads of dental associations, world renowned dentists and deans of dental colleges and universities from the UAE and abroad.
On this occasion, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman, GSDA and AEEDC Dubai said, “As part of our efforts to promote dental health education and oral related programs in the region, I am indeed very proud to witness the start of the 16th Global Scientific Dental Alliance (GSDA) Meeting which is one of the most important annual gatherings for the world’s leading dental associations, societies, organizations, leading decision makers and members of the global dental fraternity. With so many advances taking place in the world of dentistry, we believe an alliance such as GSDA is crucial to address the challenges facing dentists which also gives us a platform to seek recommendations and learn from the vast experiences of various detail world dental bodies and associations.”
He added, “This year, GSDA aims to further promote the role of oral health education by facilitating a dialogue between top dental associations while also giving them an opportunity to keep themselves abreast with the latest in the field of dentistry. As the field of oral and dental medicine is rapidly changing every year, I believe GSDA serves a unique role in understanding the most important issues facing dentists, make appropriate recommendations and focus on building a viable roadmap for the future of dentistry in the region.”
From his side, Dr. Robert Edwab, Executive Director of the Greater New York Dental Meeting, said: “We have grown with your participation & ideas for one goal, which is to improve the care we give to our patients. We are here as ambassador of AEEDC Dubai 2020 and we look forward to growing this meeting and event & improve these ideas and knowledge.”
This year, AEEDC Dubai featured a key signing ceremony ‘Cooperation Agreement’ between AEEDC Dubai and FDI World Dental Federation in the presence of Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman, GSDA and AEEDC Dubai and Dr. Kathryn Kell, President of FDI World Dental Federation. The cooperation agreement aims to further enhance strategic partnerships between AEEDC Dubai and FDI World Dental Federation, raise awareness about the latest advances in dentistry, improve the standards of dental education as well as support oral health promotion activities in the UAE and the wider world.
Commenting on the cooperation agreement between AEEDC Dubai and FDI World Dental Federation, Dr. Kathryn Kell, President, FDI World Dental Federation, said, “This cooperation agreement gives AEEDC Dubai and FDI World Dental Federation a mutually beneficial opportunity to continue the successful cooperation between our entities and advance our shared goals of prioritizing continuing medical education. As part of our goals, FDI World Dental Federation aims to deliver on ‘knowledge transfer’ as its key strategic goal while also fostering best practices in oral health science and education and we believe platforms such as AEEDC Dubai are essential to highlight the latest advances and technologies in the oral health field, raise the profile of oral health, develop appropriate solutions to solve the global burden of oral disease and bolster the science and practice of dentistry. I am highly confident that AEEDC Dubai’s commitment to innovation and scientific research on a regional level, helps to further FDI’s mission to raise the standards of oral health in the Middle East and beyond.”
While giving a few figures related to the impact of oral diseases on public health Dr. Kell added, “We live in a world where the burden of oral disease remains significant and widespread. Most people will be affected by preventable oral diseases, including dental caries and gingivitis, in their lifetime. We know for a fact that, oral diseases affect at least 3.58 billion people worldwide, with caries of the permanent teeth being the most prevalent of all conditions assessed. Globally, it is estimated that 2.4 billion people suffer from caries of permanent teeth and 486 million children suffer from caries of primary teeth. The global burden of oral disease constitutes a major public health challenge and in order to overcome such a challenging paradigm shift, a unified effort from all stakeholders, including regional entities like AEEDC Dubai is paramount.”
In addition, AEEDC Dubai Conference and Exhibition also featured a Signing Ceremony ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ between AEEDC Dubai and Saudi Orthodontics Society in the presence of Eng. Anas Al Madani, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of INDEX Holding and Prof. Ali Habiballah Hassan, President of Saudi Orthodontic Society. This MOU is part of the efforts of the two parties to participate in various plans that aim at developing the field of orthodontics and contribute to raise awareness among members of the community of the importance of dental care in general and orthodontics in particular.
On the sidelines, the meeting witnessed the announcement of the launch of the 1st edition of AEEDC Cairo Conference and Exhibition which is set to be held from 12 – 14 December 2019 at Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Cairo.
AEEDC Student Competition 2019 Concludes
The AEEDC Student competition 2019 concluded on the second day of AEEDC Dubai, which enabled students of different universities and colleges to share their knowledge in various fields of dentistry and compete to win the coveted “AEEDC Knowledge Champion 2019”. Many students participated this year from University of Sharjah, RAK College of Dental Sciences, Qassim University, Imam Abdulrahman AlFaisal University, College of Dentistry, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, King Khalid University, Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University and Ain Shams University, Faculty of Dentistry, AlFarabi Colleges in Riyadh, King Abdul Aziz University, Faculty of Dentistry, Saratov State Medical University, Ibn Sina National College for Medical Sciences, Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, Universite Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth, The British University in Egypt and the Lebanese University Faculty of Dentistry and Jazan University.

AEEDC Dubai Stars 2019 continued on the second day with its series of competitions lined up to involve many celebrity dentists, influencers, experts and industry professionals in a fun-filled atmosphere designed to engage them in various entertaining and engaging activities.
Today, AEEDC Dubai Stars 2019 also featured a panel discussion among experts who shared their experiences on ‘Life and dentistry’ while also involving key sessions on AEEDC Dubai Ambassadors, Smile Masters, Motivation Session, Success Stories and Lifestyle Tips and Tricks among other entertainment activities.
Additionally, Meet the Master Competition during AEEDC Dubai Stars 2019 presented winners with a chance to get a fully covered unforgettable training experience in Dubai and Italy with Dr. Majd Naji, Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and Chairman of Liberty Medical Group. This includes 3 days training in Liberty Dental Clinic – UAE, Advanced NNN Veneers Training – UAE, 2 days visit to Cefla factory – Italy and an appearance in the Smile Masters Show – Italy and the UAE.
