Abstract:

This focused 4-hour workshop explores the pivotal role of the maxillary central incisors in smile design and their influence on overall dental esthetics. Led by experienced prosthodontics, the session includes both theoretical principles and live demonstration of central incisor preparation techniques. Participants will gain clinical insight into morphology, tooth proportions, and preparation strategies for achieving optimal esthetic and functional outcomes.

Introduction:

The maxillary central incisors are central not only anatomically but also esthetically, often considered the foundation of a harmonious and pleasing smile. As the most visible teeth in the smile zone, their shape, position, and proportion significantly influence facial balance, perceived age, and personality traits. In prosthodontic practice, the restoration of teeth demands both artistic precision and technical expertise.
This workshop is designed for dental professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of smile design principles with a central incisor-centric approach. Through evidence-based lectures and expert-led demonstration, the session will cover facial and dental esthetic parameters, ideal incisal edge positioning, and detailed preparation techniques including depth orientation, reduction guides, and finish line considerations.
Participants will leave equipped with actionable knowledge and skills to diagnose, plan and execute central incisor restorations that blend seamlessly with the natural dentition, enhancing both function and esthetics. Whether for veneers, crowns, of full-mouth rehabilitation, the central incisor demands a refined prosthodontic approach-and this session delivers exactly that.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand the esthetic and functional significance of maxillary central incisor in smile design.
  • To identify ideal morphological and positional characteristics of central incisors for harmonious facial and dental esthetics.
  • To master the step-by-step clinical protocol for conservative and accurate preparation of central incisor for restorations.
  • To evaluate common challenges and prosthetic solution in rehabilitating central incisors for long-term success.

Abstract:

Restoring a fractured central incisor with direct composite requires more than replacing lost tooth structure. It demands s systematic approach to form, function, and optical integration. This workshop presents a predictable workflow for Class IV restorations, form initial assessment and shade selectio to palatal shell fabrication, anatomical layeing, and finishing and polishing. By connecting key anatomical landmarks and simplifying clinical decision-making, participants will learn how to recreate natural contours, incisal characteristics, and surface texture while achieving seamless integration with the adjacent dentition. The goal is to transform a challenging fracture into an esthetic, functional, and biomimetic restoration.

Introduction:

Class IV fractures of maxillary central incisors are among the most demanding direct restorative procedures in the esthetic zone. Beyond restoring the missing tooth structure, clinicians must recreate the natural anatomy, optical properties, and surface characteristics that allow the restoration to blend seamlessly with the surrounding dentition. The challenge lies not only in material selection and layering but also in understanding the principles that govern predictable esthetic outcomes.

Direct composite offers a conservative, versatile, and efficient approach to restoring fractured anterior teeth. However, achieving consistently successful results requires a structured clinical protocol that simplifies decision-making and translates anatomical knowledge into practical steps. From analyzing the remaining tooth structure and selecting appropriate shades to reproducing incisal translucency, contour, and surface texture, each stage contributes to the final result.

This workshop introduces a systematic approach to Class IV restorations, emphasizing anatomical landmarks, controlled layering, and meticulous finishing and polishing. By connecting these essential elements into a repeatable workflow, clinicians can improve predictability, efficiency, and confidence when transforming a fractured central incisor into a natural-looking restoration.

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze a Class IV fracture of a maxillary central incisor and indentify the key anatomical landmarks required for predicatable restoration.
  • Select appropriate composite shades and opacities based on the optical characteristics of the remaining tooth structure.
  • Fabricate a palatal shell using a silicone index or freehand technique to establish the correct palatal anatomy and incisal edge posiition.
  • Apply a structured composite latyering protocol to reproduce natural tooth morphology, incisal translucency, and optical integration.
  • Execute a finishing and polishing sequence to refine anatomical contours, surface texture, and gloss for a natural-looking final restoration.
